Havoc wrecked in Awka metropolis as a result of heavy down pour- Hon. Dr. G. Nnamdi Okafor

The heavy down pour experienced in Anambra State as from the early hours of Monday has wrecked havoc to our people and their properties especially those living in Awka the state capital.

Words alone could not describe the calamities caused by the rain.

Hon. Dr. G. Nnamdi Okafor, member representing Awka South Constituency A in the State House of Assembly visited the scene and sympathized with the victims of the flood.

Places affected by the rain as at the time of filing this news are Umuike, Umuoruka, Umuogbu and even some parts of Amikwo in Awka.

 Among his train were Hon. Prince Azubuike Iloh, Chairman of the Awka South Local Govt Area, Hon. Chikodili Nnoyelum, Councillor of the affected Ward (Ward 5); Hon. Commissioner, Obi Nwankwo representing the Governor of Anambra State toured the devastated areas and sympathized with the residents.

Hon. Okafor reassured the residents that the government will come to their aid in no distance time, he also adviced them on precautionary measures to be taken so as to avoid future occurrence such as consistent environmental sanitation, clearing of the drainage system, avoid using the drainage system as refuge dump.

A resident who is a bread baker, Mr Oluchukwu said "Now we have hope of ending this calamity because no government have ever visited us each time we experience this problem"

 Another resident, Mr Bobby Emeka said "We are so grateful that the government visited here and inspected the situation" We are suffering here, He said.
