14 people arrested in respect with the death of Benue state PDP chieftain

MAKURDI—Fourteen suspects have been arrested by Benue State Police Command for alleged involvement in last week’s assassination of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, stalwart and elder statesman, Chief Atoza Ihindan, in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area. This was made known to reporters yesterday in Makurdi, the state capital, by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent Austin Ezeani. Ezeani said among those apprehended by the Police was the suspect, who allegedly shot and killed Chief Ihindan, a woman and her baby, among others. He said: “The suspect was arrested with bullet wounds on his leg. An AK-47 rifle loaded with 128 live ammunition was also found on him at the time of his arrest. “Those arrested are assisting the police with useful information to unravel the perpetrators of these dastardly killings in the area. “We are also mopping up illegal arms from those who are not embracing the amnesty programme recently introduced by the state governor.” Ezeani further said that the Commissioner of Police, Hyacinth Dagala, had detailed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Unit to move into the area to ensure that those behind the killings there were all apprehended. Vanguard recalls that the late Chief Ihindan was assassinated last week at Katsina-Ala, while inspecting construction work on his piece of land.
