APGA supporters shut down Alex Ekwueme- By Chris McCool Nwosu

By Chris McCool Nwosu-Awka, Anambra

If you belong to the school of thought that hopes or believe that Anambra state will be taken away from the firm grip of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) come 2017, then I am afraid you may have to wait much longer if the tumultuous turn out at today's inauguration rally that formally heralded the take-off of the Chief, Sir Norbert Obi led state executive committee of the party is anything to go by.

With the venue jam-packed with teeming party faithful and defectors from rival political parties, especially politicians who are tired of the in-fighting and intrigues in the rival People's Democratic Party (PDP), the highpoint of the rally was the swearing-in of the newly elected executive committee and reception of defectors from rival political parties into the APGA family.
Arrival of Gov. Obiano

Welcoming the new members, the national chairman of the party, Chief Victor Oye praised them for taking the right and courageous decision, describing their entrance into APGA as 'home coming' and a step in the right direction.

He assured that in the spirit of APGA's philosophy of 'Onye aghana nwanne ya', the party's door is widely open and her tent roomy enough to accommodate all wishing to join the movement, stressing that APGA, for Ndigbo in particular, is not just a political party but a movement bestowed on us by the transited Igbo leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu. Giving insight as to what prompted them into joining APGA at this point in time, Honourable Chito Modestus Ohazulike and others who spoke on behalf of the defectors pointed to what they described as the heart-lifting performance of His Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano and the tranquility in APGA as the major catalyst responsible for their decision to abandon the sinking ship of the PDP in the state.

APGA Faithfuls

In his vote of thanks, the new state chairman, Sir Nobert Obi, under whose watch secondary schools in the state witnessed unprecedented transformation in the live of the immediate past administration, thanked His Excellency, the Governor; the national chairman of the party, as well as key political office holders and top government operatives who not only physically graced the ceremony but gave every necessary support to ensure the success of the rally.

He assured party faithful that the future holds so much hope for APGA and therefore enjoined the new executives at all levels to go all out and mobilize to grow the party at the grassroots, warning that nothing must be done to impede expected inflow into the APGA family as the party is big enough to accommodate all that genuinely wished to join its fold. He said that a revalidation exercise is on the way to revalidate old members who for one reason or another have not been as active as they used to be. Volunteering his impression of the rally, a domestic vendor, Mazi Abel Nwankwo, who said he was quite familiar with previous events at the Alex Ekwueme Square Awka, described today's rally as 'exceptionally impressive'.

Asked why? He said it was only during inauguration of new governments or campaign flag-offs that the volume of traffic of human heads and cars witnessed in and around the square today is witnessed. 'Can't you see that all the surrounding and adjoining streets around Ekwueme square is clustered with vehicles parked in every available space?' he queried.
