The Anambra State Government has ordered principals of public secondary schools in the state to immediately refund all illegal levies collected from students or face sanctions.
The Chairman of the state Post Primary Schools Services Commission, Mrs. Joy Ulasi, announced this in a joint management meeting with principals of schools held at the commission’s headquarters in Awka monday.
It was gathered that this might not be unconnected with the abolition of some taxes and levies in the state as measures to cushion the effect of the economic downtown in the country on the people by Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano.
A statement by the commission’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Felix Uzor, warned that “henceforth any principal whose act would constitute sabotage to Obiano’s recession relief package would be removed as a school principal.”
The statement said: “She directed the principals of all secondary schools in the state to refund to the students any levy collected without approval letter on or before October, 12.
The statement read in part, “The chairman of Anambra State Post Primary Service Commission, Lady Joy Ulasi has announced ban on collection of machetes and hoes from any student in public secondary schools in the state for the next three years, as well as other items not expressly approved.
“Schools should make judicious use of the matches and hoes collected from students in previous years to do manual labour in schools.
The President of Association of Principals of Secondary schools in the state, Victor, had in his remarks warned those he called “bad eggs” among principals to desist from soiling the names of majority of the principals who had worked so hard to place Anambra tops on the academic map.

Anambra To Build N120m Rehabilitation Centre To Carter For Drug Addicts
Anambra State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Sule Momodu said the state government has commenced plans to construct a rehabilitation centre worth over N120 million.
Momodu made the disclosure when he conducted newsmen round the proposed site in Awka, saying the center is specifically designed to cater for drug-addicted persons in the country.
According to him, the state executive council recently approved the construction of the centre adding that “The project site would be easily accessible due to where it would be located, while the facility would accommodate over fifty persons, as well as offer services to persons addicted to drugs from all parts of the country.”
He said the center will be the first of its kind in the country and would be equipped with the state-of-the-art-facilities to take proper care of drug addicts.
While commending Governor Willie Obiano for initiating the project, Momodu assured him of the support of his command in the fight against illicit drugs in the state.

Anambra @ 25 as Chief Victor Umeh celebrates with Ndi Anambra
Chief Sir Victor Umeh joined Ndi Anambra to Mark 25th Silver Jubilee Anniversary in Grand Style.
It turned out to be the gathering of Who is Who in Anambra Socio-economic, religious cum political trains as Chief Sir Victor Umeh- OFR joined the movers and shakers of our state to mark Anambra State @ 25.
In a special remark made by the Chairman of the Anniversary Committee who also double as Deputy Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency Dr. Nkem Okeke outlined the programs mapped out to celebrate Anambra @ 25.
He made it known to the public that Silver Jubilee is worthy of celebrating especially in a State like Anambra where we are strategically moving forward. Political stakeholders, religious leaders, captain of industries, traditional leaders and well meaning Ndi Anambra converged to applaud the giant strides of Gov. Obiano's enviable achievements despite the economic cankerworm eating up the nation.
Chief Umeh, the immediate past National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance and the Senate-designate of Anambra Central speaking to members of the press shortly after the event recounted the journey so far emphasizing that APGA party has restructured and redirected Anambra State to its path of progress.
He noted that prior to the emergence of the party in the state, Anambra was known for every negative possibilities but today is a state being emulated by many especially in areas of security in such time Nigeria is under serious security threats and in areas of financial management and sustenance of effective governance in a time the nation is undergoing economic recession and many states unable to pay their workers.

Our amiable hardworking Governor has so much tried to fulfill his numerous promises ever since he assumed the Executive office. With his midas touch, our great state is today the safest state in the country because of the fierce war Governor Obiano waged on kidnappers, armed robbers and other practitioners of social vices in the state. Operation Kpochapu is at work and Anambra people no longer experience sleepless night.
I can vividly still recall that paragraph of your inaugural speech on March 17th, 2014: “Fellow Anambrarians, your clamour for a capital city that fully reflects the essence of our people will be addressed by my administration. We shall re-design and remodel Awka to meet the structural and aesthetic requirements of a 21st Century city that we can all be proud of. We shall also faithfully implement the master plans for Onitsha and Nnewi.”
As record may attest to it, today, Awka the highly neglected place is now a modernised State Capital. Kudos to Akpokuedike Global. Now, Gov. Obiano can stand tall and distinguish himself among past administrators of Anambra State.
Akpokuedike Global, words alone are not enough to express how happy the entire people of the State are as you are celebrating another year of your life today! Wishing you a productive and healthy years ahead.
