Chief Kenneth Ositadimma Okonkwo (AgunecheIgbo) Hosts Anambra State Students' Union (ANSSU)

Chief Kenneth Ositadimma Okonkwo (AgunecheIgbo) Hosts Anambra State Students' Union (ANSSU)

4th June,2016.

Umuawulu Town in Awka South Local Government which also is the hometown of AgunecheIgbo, was shaken for good today
(4th June,2016) as Chief Kenneth Ositadimma Okonkwo (MD Ochabrigade and the CEO Model Security) played host in a grand style to the newly inaugurated Anambra State Students Union (ANSSU).

The event which took place at his palatial home at Umuawulu had in attendance the "who-is-who" in Anambra State Government. Some of the guests were: Hon. Harford Oseke (Deputy Speaker Anambra State House of Assembly), Hon. Innocent Nduanya (SA Student Matters and Mobilisation), Hon. Chibuzor Valentine Okaa (SA Pharmacy), Hon. Vincent Obimma (SA Transport), Hon. Odinaka Okonkwo (SA Housing/ASHDC), Hon. Ngozi Nnaemekwe (SA Youth Mobilisation) and the Chieftains of Umuawulu Community.

The President General of ANSSU, Comr Osita David Onuko led delegates from the three Senatorial Zones in the state representing the entire student community to the epoch making event which was an avenue for Anambra State Students to relate with the well placed in the State and tap from the Host's Wealth of Knowledge.

AgunecheIgbo who champions the course of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra A.K.A Ochabrigade, has served meritoriously well in that aspect even as he continues to work tirelessly with the Executive Governor Of Anambra State in making Anambra State a place of pride in the aspect of Security of Life and Property of her inhabitants.

His (AgunechIgbo) outstanding performances in the various offices he has handled in Anambra State continues to earn him recommendations within and outside Anambra State. And that informed the reason why the Students of Anambra State under the aiges of ANSSU awarded him PATRON of ANSSU today in his palace. While receiving the award of Patron, AgunechIgbo observed that ANSSU is the best innovation he has seen in recent times in Anambra State given it's hold on the Students of the various communities in the State which also makes ANSSU a grassroot movement.

He applauded the SA on Student Matters and Mobilisation for providing an enabling environment for ANSSU to thrive in the State as he also expressed confidence in the crop of leaders at the helm of affairs of ANSSU. In his words, he called them "Managers of Human and Material Resources with Qualitative Experience." He enjoined them to work for the good of the Students of Anambra State disregarding all forms of setback and backbiting which according to him will come occasionally to test their resolve to serve Anambra State Students.

He also pleaded with the Students to support the working Willie M Obiano, Akpokuedike Global to finish strong in the remaining days of his first term even as he pleaded that Willie should be supported for a second term in Office since he has performed beyond our expectations and benchmark.

The Deputy Speaker of ANSHA, Hon. Harford Oseke expressed his delight when he learnt that something like ANSSU had started existing in the State noting that that was why he cut short his trip just to be with the true sons and daughters of Anambra State Students Community when he heard they were coming to Umuawulu.

He also enjoined the Students to be resolute and focused on whatever goal they plan to achieve with the assurances that people like him are there to give them soft landing and to support their gainful programmes. The leader of the Students in Anambra State, Comr. Innocent Nduanya commended the kind gestures of AgunechIgbo and the Deputy Speaker, assuring them that with ANSSU, Anambra State Students are ready to be fully empowered.

Also the P.G of ANSSU Comr. Osita Onuko thanked the dignitaries for hosting his group in such a colourful manner. He expressed that they least expected what they saw and for them it was an indication that the cap of a Patron fits perfectly on the head of AgunechIgbo. He also thanked AgunechIgbo for offering to give employment to 10 Anambra State Students as soon as their names are forwarded to him next week. And for the gifts he offered the group.

Anambra State Government Presents Cheque of N217m to the Catholic Church and N150m to the Anglican Church for School Infrastructure.

While presenting the Cheques, Gov Obiano emphasised that the N217m and N150m "are meant for projects identified to be necessary for infrastructural upgrade of schools.

Note that the amount set aside for the Anglican, Catholic and Public Schools is dependent on the number of schools under their control.

Recall that the administration of Obiano had last year given N433m to Catholic Church and N300m to the Anglican Communion which they have commendably utilised.

A COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AFTER AN EMERGENCY NATIONAL EXECUTIVE MEETING OF ANAMBRA STATE STUDENTS UNION (ANSSU). 12th MAY, 2016.

A COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AFTER AN EMERGENCY NATIONAL EXECUTIVE MEETING OF ANAMBRA STATE STUDENTS UNION (ANSSU). 12th MAY, 2016.

1. The Executive Members on behalf of the entire Anambra State Students, passed a vote of confidence on His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano on his giant strides and outstanding performance in the Security Sector of the state.

It is not new news that Anambra State is the safest State in the federation. Life and properties are well safe guarded and people go about peacefully in doing their daily dealings.

Little wonder most Federal Programmes that attracts people from the nooks and crannies of Nigeria are usually hosted in Anambra State, a perfect example being the just concluded ANCOPPS Summit for the principals of Secondary Schools across the federation; among many others.

2. We entirely condemn the dastardly act of the terrorists that have besieged the SouthEast in the guise of Fulani Herdsmen, which has resulted in the loss of lives and huge material resources across the zone.

We enjoin the Security Agencies to brace up to this challenge and ensure that Nigerians wherever they are will never be threatened or live in the fear of threat by other Nigerians no matter who they are.
National Executive Members of ANSSU

Governors of The South Eastern States should collaborate in ensuring that this unsavoury surge is tamed before it blossoms.

We also commend the proactive efforts of Gov. Willie Obiano in confronting this latest terror group by deploying Security Choppers to hover across the length and breath of the State to ensure threats or potential threats are nipped on the bud.

3. We enjoin the Government of Anambra State under the leadership of Akpokuedike Igbo Ninee, Chief Willie Obiano, to religiously look into the issue of bursary for Anambra State Students.

We are fully aware that the economy is bad and that our Governor by the Grace of God is doing wonders with the little resources available, we also think that extending that wonder in the area of student bursary no matter how small, will be appreciated by the entire Anambra State Students.

4. Finally we advise Anambra State Students to be of good conduct and show the light which is the motto of our union.

We want to do away with the disdainful aura with which students are hitherto perceived, so to achieve this, we must shun all forms of violence and embrace dialogue as the best way of resolving issues of concern to us.

Once again we assure our Students that we will not fail to jealously guard the principles for which the union stand for. We pledge to continually promote the very true ideals of of our existence.

ANSSU- SHOW THE LIGHT!!!

Thanks.

Signed on behalf of the Entire National Executive Members:

Comr. Osita Onuko (IfeIgbo)
President General ANSSU.

Why Uche Ekwunife Would Not Fly Our Flag, She Is A "Fair-weather hen"- APC

The party selected Sharon Ikeazor, a former interim woman leader of the party, as its candidate in the election. The Court of Appeal, sitting in Enugu, had in December declared the seat vacant and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct a fresh election within 90 days.

The court quashed the earlier ruling of the National Assembly Election Tribunal that Mrs. Ekwunife had won the seat in the March 28, 2015 senatorial election, which she contested as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party. The appeal was filed by the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Victor Umeh.

Following her loss at the appeal court, Mrs. Ekwunife defected to the APC to contest the rerun since the party’s candidate in the March election, Chris Ngige, had been appointed the minister of labour. In its report, the five member-committee chaired by Osita Okechukwu, said Mrs. Ekwunife and Mrs. Ikeazor, presented themselves for screening.

It said at the end of the exercise, it chose Mrs. Ikeazor to contest election having “fulfilled Section 4 of 2014 Guidelines for the Nomination of Candidates for Public Office and all relevant sections of the Electoral Act and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”. The panel recounted that Mrs. Ikeazor was a member of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party, woman leader of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change and woman leader, interim national executive committee of the All Progressives Congress, as well as a member of its board of trustees. “Her trajectory shows loyalty, perseverance and consistency to the emergence of our progressive party,” the panel said.

“In conclusion, she is qualified and therefore we recommend her for nomination as the candidate of our great party for Anambra State Central Senatorial District.” On Mrs. Ekwunife, the committee observed that she was barely two weeks old in the APC. It noted further, “Most importantly, our deep concern is her record which showed that she dumps political parties at will, leaving the parties in its wake factionalized – from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), to Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), back to PDP or vice versa and now to APC.

“She is more or less a fair-weather hen therefore her antecedent contravenes Section 4(3) of the 2014 Guideline for Nomination of Candidate for Public Office. Caution is valour. “The score sheet in respect of the aspirants is also attached herewith for further necessary action. The committee found that Aspirant Senator Uche Lilian Ekwunife, is ineligible to seek the APC nomination for the Senatorial election.” The committee, whose members include Abdullahi Aliyu, Bunmi Oririowo, Mary Aipoh and Garba Umar (Secretary), said, in carrying out its assignment , it enquired into the profile of aspirants, integrity and fulfillment of all the relevant sections of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2010 Electoral Act and Guideline for Nomination of candidates of our great party, the APC.

It stated, “To aid the committee in its assignment, a score board analysis of the parameters set out above was made. Members scored all aspirants on the following basis viz: BioData/Education- 20 Points; Experience (Public/Private)-20 points; Integrity and Personal Character- 40 points and Party Loyalty and Support-20 Points. The guidelines set a pass mark of 51 Points for the aspirants.” [Premium Times]
